STEAM IN THE LANDSCAPE

British steam locomotives are fascinating machines. Although their lives were brought to an end in the late 1960s, there are still a large number of locomotives that survived the scrap yards of South Wales and North East England and still run on the main line to this day.

When James was younger, his Dad took him to see 'Flying Scotsman' pass through Eastleigh station with the famous Pullman train. In 2006, James' interest in both steam locomotives and photography grew, and since then the two have gone hand in hand. Since 2012, he's travelled around Britain photographing these living, breathing beasts, from the Highlands of Scotland to the far South West of England.

The Steam in the Landscape collection showcases the these incredible locomotives hard at work in the most picturesque locations in England, Scotland and Wales.

British steam locomotives are fascinating machines. Although their lives were brought to an end in the late 1960s, there are still a large number of locomotives that survived the scrap yards of South Wales and North East England and still run on the main line to this day.

The first steam locomotive that James saw (when he was only 6 years old!) was the first locomotive to officially reach 100mph, London North Eastern Railway A3 class no.60103 'Flying Scotsman'.

The engine has always had a place in James' heart, and in the Winter of 2016, The A3 returned to the main line after a major overhaul. Since returning, James has been out photographing it at every available opportunity at some of the most iconic locations in the country.

The Legend Returns collection shows this fine locomotive on it's first few railtours after returning to the main line following the completion of an 11-year overhaul. This collection will be limited to just 10 pieces each.
